HISTORY
In reality, the Tower Bridge was built thanks to the East End of London (click here to learn more about the East End) because in the 19 century this area developed a lot in a commercial way, so a new bridge was needed to let people cross the river easily and reach the East End.
The construction started in 1886 with Sir John Wolfe Barry as an engineer and Sir Horace Jones as an architect. It took almost 8 years to finish building the Tower Bridge. On 30 June 1894 it was officially opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
TODAY
The length of the bridge is 240 meters and it has two towers, North Tower and South Tower, each of them is 65 meters tall.
It's really worth visiting this place and go inside the Tower Bridge if you want to have a look at Victorian London.
